This feeling of joy for others is not always easy, though, especially when it comes to others' pregnancy and childbirth while struggling with your own fertility. It is one thing to congratulate someone in person or with technology; it is quite another to internalize that joy and continue to genuinely feel it in private. This is often quite complex.
It would be a lot easier for me to harbor ill will, jealousy, or resentment towards our pregnant friends or those who are new parents. That would be understandable and even expected in a person in my situation. I've tried this, and believe me, nothing good or productive can come from it.
While it is important to feel whatever necessary emotions you need to whenever you need to feel them, it is also important to recognize that love and joy are contagious. Give love to others in abundance, and you will have love returned to you. I often think of the timeless Golden Rule here - truly treat others the way you'd want to be treated - and then some.
If love breeds love and joy brings us joy, then the universe does in fact reward those who are positive, hopeful, and generous.
